I mostly run the tip jar, but also do some of the curating too. If you haven't been to this, it's the first Monday of every month, 8:30-11:30, and features three sets of music. It's really a good time. The programming is diverse, with the only criteria essentially being that the music is original (not covers, or at least very original takes on covers). Typically the music includes a healthy dose of improvisation in one form or another, but we did have one piece for something like 30 electric guitars that I think was through-composed. Anyways, it's at the Makeout Room, (22nd St between Valencia and Mission, San Francisco), and next month is our one-year anniversary, featuring Dave Slusser, Myles Boisen's Past Present Future, and the ROVA Saxophone Quartet.

Also, on the second Tuesday of each month, I play with the Oakland Active Orchestra. This 18 Piece collective premiers new works every month from within the group, as well as those by the occasional guest composers. This group just gets better and better, with strings and horns and drums and vibes and all kinds of things, played by some of my favorite composers and improvisers. The group dynamic has really become something worth hearing over the last few months. This happens at the Uptown in Oakland, on Telegraph at 19th St, and there's no cover. (another tip situation). Music starts at 9:00.
